Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto ryu

Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu is the oldest surviving sword school in Japan. This is an excellent video of the current headmaster Otake Risuke and one of his senior students practicing kenjutsu kata. Note the different kamae and cutting style to kendo. Also, the kata are longer in duration than kendo kata and contain several attack and counter-attack sequences, not just one. b

I couldn't believe how fast and fulid their movements were! In particular, I was amazed at the athleticism of the man (the headmaster?) doing the exercises with the katana or iaito. Those nuki waza where he jumped in the air (to avoid a horizontal cut?) were quite spectacular given that he's probably not that young. We kendoka would have no hope against these guys.
