2024 - end of a huge year!

Image
2024 has been an epic year, full of great achievements and also great sadness. But the club has become so much stronger as a result of these extremes. Well done to everyone, and thank you all for a wonderful last training for 2024. Our training schedule for 2025 has changed by agreement of the club members. We will now be training throughout the year without a break. Fees will be paid monthly, and public holiday weekends will be our only regular break from training. I have updated our 'About' and 'FAQ' pages to reflect this. Our first official Saturday training for 2025 will be Saturday 1 February.  This will also be the start of the first Beginners' Course.  Training fees are $60.00/month ($30.00/month for HC card holders and FT tertiary students). This covers all training sessions, (typically 4 x Saturday and 4 x Wednesday trainings). For families, only the first two members pay fees. Other members of the same family train for free. Visitors to Nanseikan from ot...

Soon passes 3 dan grading in Brussels

Image
Congratulations to Soon for passing his 3rd dan in Brussels yesterday! Apparently it was quite a strict grading with a low pass rate. Soon has been living and working in London for the past 18 months. You can often see him at training via London Kenyukai's Instagram . Well done Soon and we hope to see you Melbourne again soon!

Thanks to Anna for sharing these photos. We had such a wonderful time I think we might have to do it again! Nanseikan end-of-year training, Blairgowrie Community Hall.

First training for term 2 a great success; AKR membership fees due soon; AKR annual report

Last week we went to Cragieburn Martial Arts centre and filled their Kendojo to bursting. It was wonderful to meet Kevin and Leanne and admire the beautiful training space they have built with lots of hard work and love of budo. I think they also enjoyed seeing the dojo used to its absolute maximum! I'll attach all of the action shots at the bottom of this post. If you would like a higher resolution version of any of these images, please email me. Conversely if you would like any of them removed from this page or from our IG, please also don't hesitate to get in touch. 2019 membership fees due 15 May Annual membership fees are due soon. Fees are (still) $70.00 for adults and $45.00 for juniors. Fees are payable to me and I will forward a single club payment to the VKR by the due date. The AKR AGM was held over Easter. As you may already know Stilts was elected unopposed to be the new President of the AKR. Congratulations! The minutes, outgoing President's Repor...

Kangeiko 2017

Image
And so another term comes to an end. This time with somewhat of a bang thanks to Cho and Wright senseis' energetic training at Tora Dojo. This was the first time Nanseikan has done degeiko , other than the Kenshikan and it was a great success. I was very proud of the standard of Kendo shown by our members, partrticularly as there were so many sensei present. Fudoshin and MUKEN were represented by Maksay sensei, Sugimoto sensei and Chin sensei. The drills that Cho sensei had the juniors doing looked fun, but I couldn't watch because I was too busy keeping up with Wright sensei's relentless waza practice! The Tora Dojo tradition of the second dojo was great too. Pity the pub had already been taken over by hundreds of Rugby fans to watch the match between England and NZ! We'll definitely come again, but I think next time it should be us hosting Tora Dojo to our Shochugeiko on 16 December. Below are a selection, in no particular order, of some grea...
